Undoubtedly, the unique spirit of this region has played a pivotal role in fostering individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement and enrichment of Egypt's intellectual, scientific, spiritual, and material life. It is our responsibility to honor and take pride in these distinguished figures and to document their legacies. Distinguished Islamic scholar who worked in the judicial system

Sheikh Mohamed Mamoun El-Shennawy rose through the ranks to become the President of the Supreme Sharia Court, the Head of the Fatwa Committee at Al-Azhar Mosque, and ultimately the Sheikh of Al-Azhar. He obtained his "Al-Elmiyya" degree in 1906. After graduation, he was appointed as a teacher at the newly established Alexandria Religious Institute in 1903. Later, he was selected as the Imam of the Royal Court, a position he held for five years, during which he earned great respect and admiration. In 1930, Sheikh El-Shennawy was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia, becoming the first person in Al-Azhar's history to hold this distinguished position. Under his leadership, he successfully organized and advanced the academic structure of the faculty. In 1934, he was honored with membership in the "Council of Senior Scholars," the most prestigious scholarly body in the Islamic world. In 1944, he was appointed as the Deputy of Al-Azhar Mosque and Head of its Fatwa Committee. On January 18, 1948, he ascended to the position of Sheikh of Al-Azhar. Throughout his tenure, he worked relentlessly to strengthen the ties between Al-Azhar and the wider Islamic world, sending numerous scholarly delegations to spread the correct doctrines and the principles of Islam. The Sheikh continued his dedicated work with unwavering perseverance and patience until his passing on September 4, 1950.

Throughout his illustrious career, he composed music for many of the most prominent singers in the Arab world, including Umm Kulthum, Nagat, Asmahan, Saleh Abdel Hai, Souad Mohamed, and Faiza Ahmed. In recognition of his artistic legacy, he was awarded the First-Class Order of Merit in 1964. He later received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Arts, the Artistic Leadership Award in 1977, and the State Appreciation Award in 1980. He was also honored with the UNESCO International Music Prize in recognition of his creative contributions to music. He passed away on September 9, 1981.

Among his notable works are The Nile's Celebrations, composed by Mahmoud El-Sharif, and the operetta Rabea Al-Adawiyya, famously performed by Umm Kulthum. He also contributed to several popular radio series such as The Happy Family, The Countryside Corner, and A Thousand Days and a Day. Additionally, he was the writer behind the famous Ramadan television riddles (Fawazeer). As a poet, he published several collections, including The Image of Youth, The Flowing Lyre, The Thorns, The Night Monk, The Nights, and Tears That Never Dry.

She later earned her Ph.D. in 1944 with a dissertation titled A Critical Study of the Epistle of Forgiveness. Among her most prominent works are The Rhetorical Interpretation of the Holy Qur'an and Biographies of the Women of the Prophet’s Household. Throughout her career, she received numerous honors and awards, including the Order of Intellectual Merit from the King of Morocco in 1967, the First-Class Order of Merit in 1972, and the State Appreciation Award in Literature in 1978. In recognition of her contributions, a girls' preparatory school in Damietta was named Bint al-Shati', as well as a hall at the Omdurman Secondary School for Girls in Sudan. She passed away in 1998.

Mohamed Abdel Salam El-Zayat was appointed as the first secretary of the central committee of the Arab Socialist Union. Later, he was appointed first deputy prime minister during the corrective revolution carried out by the late President Anwar Sadat on May 15, 1971. However, Sadat later turned against him, removing him from the government. He was heavily criticized during his candidacy for the People's Assembly in the 1979 elections due to his role as the head of the Egyptian-Soviet Friendship Association, which led to accusations of Marxism being attached to him.

The late artist has many artistic works, studies, research, and translations, the most notable of which are "The Director in Contemporary Theatre," "The Servant of Sayed Darwish," "The Summer Trilogy," "A Crime on Goat Island," "Deviation in the Court of Justice," "Aguini," "Beatrice," and "Carlo Goldoni," which is a series of world plays. He also contributed numerous studies to specialized artistic and cultural periodicals in Egypt and the Arab world, such as The Theatre Magazine, Creative Artistic Chapters, and Prominent Figures of Iraq.

He later served as the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of "Akhbar Al-Youm" from 1952 until 1956, and then became the Editor-in-Chief of "Al-Ahram" newspaper, eventually being appointed as its Chairman in 1975. He was a member of the Press Organization Committee, which aimed to establish the press as the fourth estate, and also served as the deputy head of the proposal committee stemming from the constitution. He was a member of the General National Conference of the Arab Socialist Union and the Professional Syndicates Committee. In 1971, he became the head of the Journalists' Syndicate. Renowned for his high ethical standards in journalism, he earned the title "The Journalist Ambassador" and was recognized for his political acumen. He won the annual "Adgar Gelad" award for the best reportage by a journalist under 30 years old and was awarded the Order of the Republic, First Class, on the evening of his death.

He also founded the Port of Damietta, which was officially opened on July 26, 1986.
