Governors of Damietta
The governor comes at the top of the executive authority of the governorate as he is the deputy to the president of the republic on one hand and the head of its executive council on the other. Since the beginning of the local administration system in 1960 until now, 23 governors have succeeded to the Damietta Governorate, starting from Mr. Mohamed Hamdi Ashour until Professor Dr. Hossam El-Din Fawzi.
An Egyptian soldier, he held several high-ranking positions, including Commander of the Paratroopers Forces and Director of the Military College. He served as Governor of Damietta during the period from April 2011 to June 2013

Former Egyptian military officer, then head of the Egyptian Survey Authority, and governor of Damietta during the period from August 2013 to February 2015.

Governor of Damietta during the period from August 2018 to July 2024. She received the UNESCO Learning Cities Award in 2017 among 16 winning cities worldwide, as part of the activities of the Third World Learning Cities Conference held in Cork, Ireland. She is the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Local Development in Egypt.
Dr. Ayman Mohamed Rashad Al-Shehabi, the new governor of Damietta, takes the constitutional oath
After assuming the position of Governor of Damietta, succeeding Dr. Manal Awad.
Dr. Ayman Al-Shehabi held many positions, including Information Systems Advisor at the National Defense Council, and His Excellency also served as a member of the Ministerial Committee to review and update specifications for surveying works and maps.
Dr. Hossam El-Din Fawzy, the new governor of Damietta, was sworn in.
He succeeds Dr. Ayman El-Shehaby as governor of Damietta.
He previously served as a professor of civil engineering at Kafr El-Sheikh University and as deputy governor of Cairo.
