Damietta Governor: Unprecedented leap in the roads and infrastructure sector

Dr. Ayman El-Shahaby, Governor of Damietta, affirmed that the governorate has witnessed an unprecedented leap forward in the roads and infrastructure sector, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership and within a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the quality of life, facilitating the movement of citizens, and supporting investment.

In a press statement, Dr. El-Shahaby explained that during 2025, a large number of road projects were implemented and completed. These included the development of Al-Harbi Street, spanning 1,100 meters, and the development of seven unplanned areas in Damietta City. Additionally, the Nile Corniche Road in Al-Sinaniyah and the Shata Road at the governorate's entrance were developed. Furthermore, the largest restoration plan in the governorate was launched following the completion of utility projects.


Roads Authority Projects

Regarding the Roads Authority's projects, the governor noted the implementation of several vital projects, including:

The Damietta-Sherbin Western Road, at a cost of 300.5 million Egyptian pounds.

The Faraskur Axis, at a cost of 20 million Egyptian pounds.

The Kafr Saad Ring Road, at a cost of 80 million Egyptian pounds. The Al-Sawalem – Mit Abu Ghalib – Kafr Saad road project cost 80 million Egyptian pounds.

Upgrading the Al-Salam checkpoint – International Coastal Road project cost 100 million Egyptian pounds.

Developing internal roads cost 59.4 million Egyptian pounds.

The Governor of Damietta added that maintenance and development work has been carried out on a number of bridges, including the Al-Sayala Bridge at a cost of 24.4 million Egyptian pounds, the Suregan Canal Bridge at a cost of 14.1 million Egyptian pounds, and the Faraskur Bridge at a cost of 4.16 million Egyptian pounds, in addition to the maintenance of the Al-Manzala and Kafr Saad bridges and several other bridges.

The governor highlighted the major national projects currently underway, most notably the development and expansion of the International Coastal Road at a total cost of EGP 8.04 billion, with EGP 2 billion allocated to road works and EGP 6.04 billion to infrastructure and bridges. He also mentioned the dual carriageway project on the Damietta-Mansoura East Road at a cost of EGP 800 million, the development of the Damietta-Ezbet El-Borg Road at a cost of EGP 400 million, the development of the 186 Zaarab Road at a cost of EGP 230 million, and the maintenance of the coastal road towards Alexandria at a cost of EGP 40 million.

Road Network Development

The governor of Damietta concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the governorate is continuing to implement an ambitious plan to develop the road network and infrastructure, thereby improving traffic flow and enhancing opportunities for comprehensive development in the governorate.
